5 Ways Good Social Media Management Can Grow Your Business
The term “social media management” is often tossed around. It’s something that businesses know they need, but don’t necessarily see the immediate benefits or know how to decipher between good and bad social media management.
As the social media coordinator and content manager at a Detroit marketing startup, I can understand why good social media management can be somewhat of an enigma. I get just as frustrated as the next social media coordinator when I don’t see the immediate results on social for a new client, but the thing that keeps me going is that I have seen social media do brilliant things for some of my favorite brands.
Social Media Management and Your Business
So, because I believe that believing is seeing (sorry Santa), I believe that good social media management can help grow any business. Keep reading for five ways that good social media management can grow your small business or startup.
When you have good social media management, exposure to your business can sky rocket. People love social media because it tends to introduce people to brands, businesses, and people they may have never discovered without it. With quality and consistent social media posts, you can reach your intended audience. And not just reach them, you can engage them.
Connect with your audience
Social media has absolutely changed the game when it comes to connecting with your audience. Geography is no longer an obstacle for connecting with your audience—including current and potential customers. So, why is good social media management important? Well, a good social media team is on their game when it comes to acknowledging their audience’s comments, questions, and concerns. For example, if someone buys your product and then posts an Instagram picture that mentions or tags your brand, your social media management team should be actively interacting with that post.
Develop your brand
Good social media management can save you some serious cash when it comes to developing your brand. If you’re a small business or a startup, it’s likely that hiring a brand consultant or branding agency is not within the lines of your budget. Social media can help fill in the gaps of your brand by helping you develop your tone and voice. It is also probable that your audience’s first impression of your brand comes from your social media profiles. With good social media management, that first impression can be a really good one.
One thing I didn’t expect to hear once I became a social media coordinator is that many clients just want a presence on social media so that people believe they’re legit. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that some companies and products will sell better online than others with social media marketing. That being said, even if you know that your product/service may not excel online, it is important for your current and potential customers to be able to find you online. So, even if your social media management doesn’t equal sales, it should always lead to credibility.
Create your own press
Just like hiring a brand consultant or branding agency, hiring a PR team can be out of the question as well. The good news? With good social media management, PR isn’t always necessary, at least not at first. A good social media strategy should involve sharing and re-sharing articles, posts, blogs, mentions, news, etc. Good social media management means bringing as much press surrounding your business to light as possible. It also means having all of your press accessible from one spot i.e. your social media profile.
