Who is Hally Darnell? A Midwest native, complicated Starbuck’s orderer, amateur Mexican food photographer, Michigan State Spartan, and, most recently, Marketing Supply Co.’s newest intern.
I earned my BA in Professional Writing from MSU in May 2017, and while I didn’t know exactly where I would be, I knew what I wanted; to be a part of the revival of Detroit, to help build and develop brands, engage consumers on the platforms where they exist, and focus on bringing community ties and real relationships into the digital landscape. So, that’s how I ended up here; at a true Detroit start-up where I’m excited to use my passion for creative problem-solving and mad Twitter #skillz to help MSC become the go-to company for digital advertising.
Before landing this gig and graduating from college, I’d say I tried to keep myself busy. My claim to fame on campus was running MSU’s only student-run fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazine, VIM Magazine. Before holding the position of Editor-in-Chief, I wrote for the women’s fashion team for two years. Along with VIM, I was converted into a dog-lover when I worked remotely as a social media manager for a pet-wellness company, following an internship in London for the same company. And because life can never be all dogs and fancy clothes, I also paid the bills with a marketing and communications internship at the Broad College of Business.
So, in short, you could say the transition from college busy-body to ~adulting~ was an easy one. What was even easier was making the decision to work at MSC (no, like, really. I’m not just saying that so my boss will like me). The second I stepped into the trendy, downtown Detroit loft office, I knew it was the right fit.
Here’s how I really knew. Firstly, right off the bat the folks at MSC told me they thought I was funny on Twitter and there is nothing I love more than people telling me I’m funny (kidding, kind of). Second, I have always believed that start-ups foster more creativity than larger corporations, and that was something I could tell would hold true here. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, Rooster.
And that’s the gist of it. 22 years crammed into just a few short paragraphs. If you want to learn more, allow me to shamelessly plug in a link to my Instagram here.
