In 2013 Matt Tait founded TAIT Design Co. and Audrey Elkus started as an intern, quickly moved up in ranks, and became a Co-Founder. TAIT’s mission is to create timeless home products that showcase the beauty of Detroit design to the whole world.
Whether it’s your bedroom or workspace, it’s most likely littered with decor that’s not only unoriginal but cheap. Your space is in desperate need of something with true character and expert craftsmanship. Our client, TAIT Design Co., is the number one place for you to get unique, beautiful products that’ll last a lifetime.
To Matt and Audrey, producing products ethically and of good quality is essential. Even though it’s not always the easiest to achieve, everything they make is designed and assembled in Detroit with 100% of the materials sourced in the USA. “The truth is that most people have no idea what goes into making something locally and ethically that’s built to last. The price of using the best materials, hiring people at higher than minimum wage salaries, and keeping production within the US is often more than what most people expect,” stated Audrey, who personally oversees every step of production for all of their products.
Once you’ve seen a TAIT Desk Clock, there’s no question as to why it’s one of their best sellers. In addition to the five stunning colors you can choose from, the desk clock is crafted out of solid maple wood with a hand screen printed steel dial and backing. The wood that is used naturally varies in grain texture, so each clock is unique in its own way.
What sets TAIT’s Perpetual Calendar apart from the rest is that it’s made for you to use year after year. The design was inspired by vintage volvelles and features three circles you simply move to mark the date and month. The Perpetual Calendar is hand screen printed on 50 pt. raw kraft chipboard sourced from Michigan with a wooden maple end finish.
Founded in 2013, TAIT has already achieved some extremely notable honorable mentions. During the 2018 summer, TAIT participated in Detroit’s Demo Day contest and won $200,000 to expand their business locally. They’ve been associated with numerous big-names; having product features in HGTV Magazine, and Better Homes & Gardens. Most recently, Matt and Audrey were given the opportunity to sell their desk clocks and perpetual calendars at the grand opening of Madewell’s store in Downtown Detroit.
