Practically since the inception of search engines, businesses have had to navigate the ever-changing waters of SEO.
The tug of war to rank has been a battle between businesses and search engines, ending unfavorable practices like black hat SEO.
Today, SEO practices can be separated into two main groups: on-page SEO and off-page SEO (with honorable mention given to local SEO which takes place both on- and off-page).
In this article, we are going to talk about on-page SEO and how to implement it.
Content is all the rage. Why?
Blogging is engaging. Through content, blogging brings qualified users to your website. For those reasons, search engines are all about boosting pages with breadth and depth of content. But what does that mean, exactly?
Well, search engines want to ensure they rank relevant pages that users like. One way they do that is by ranking pages higher when they cover a wide range of topics and their blogs aren’t short and pithy. Yes, that means simply having quality content on your site can help you rank higher.
In addition to the breadth and depth of content, organizations shouldn’t underestimate the power of “getting meta”, and by that, of course, I’m referring to meta-tags and descriptions and other meta-data.
In short, meta-data appears on search engines, describing what people will find on your site. When structuring meta-data, you want to be strategic, using keyword-focused terms to pull in the most search engine users.
A meta-title, for instance, appears at the top of your browser window and on the search engine page where your webpage is ranked. The meta-title is followed by the meta-description on the search engine page. Optimizing these and meta-tags will help users understand that you’re the page they’re seeking.
Finally, always provide context. Offering contextual backlinks in text and alt image descriptions is a good way to provide context to end-users, making for a better experience and a higher ranking website.
